Hello Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Troops of SU 245:
It is time to think about Paula Bunyan 2019!! I mentioned this idea last fall and it was well received. We had PB 2014 at Orkila and it was a blast, yes more costly, but a great value for all that is provided. I have proceeded to make a reservation with YMCA Camp Orkila. Now it is time for you to discuss and decide, and send in your deposit to hold a spot.
What: Paula Bunyan is our SU 245’s encamporee for the Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Troops of SU 245. NOTE: current 5th Grade Girl Scouts qualify as they will be Cadettes starting in September.
Date: Oct 4-6, 2019
Accommodations: Rustic (non-heated) cabins (4 with lights, 4 without). Flush toilets in latrine building. Each cabin sleeps 12.
Cost: $130 per youth and $155 per adult for Orkila. Includes ALL meals and ALL below activities and shuttle to/from Orkila.
Additional Costs for each troop to fund individually:
Ferry fare: walk on ferry fare. Current rate is: Youth $4.25. Adult $8.50
Vehicle parking at Anacortes ferry terminal: Current rate is: $12 per car for up to 48 hours.
Food: BYO snacks and s’mores
Patch: will be optional, price TBD
Meals: All provided by Y camp, inside the lodge. Buffet style, vegetarian and gluten free options. No cooking or cleaning for us!
Transportation: 90 minute drive to Anacortes, walk on ferry, one hour cruise, and YMCA shuttle bus on the island.
Ferry: Anacortes Ferry Terminal.
Friday Departure Options: Friday 340 PM OR 630PM. Allow 30 minutes to park, buy tickets, carry/roll gear onto ferry.
Sunday Departure from Orcas Island Ferry Times: 845 AM or 1245 PM. Leave camp one hour before ferry.
Activities: Choose your Challenge!! Sign up individually i.e.; the whole troop does not have to do together
Space for all to do once;
Zip line: 1000’ foot long starts atop 70’ tower.
Climbing Wall: Top to bottom is 70’. Go as high as you want.
Drop In Fun: Archery, BB guns, craft house, and SeaLife/Marine Center.
Choose One: 4 different Challenge Elements that incorporate group belaying each other.
Choose> Giant Swing, Cat Walk, Giants Ladder, or High Circuit (25’ above ground, with 6 elements)
DYOT: DoYourOwnThing with two buddies: hike around camp, beach walks, chill time, board games in lodge, naps.
Campfire: Both nights: wood provided.
Paperwork: Certificate of Insurance and TAST (Travel Application Short Trip): I will obtain the COI and submit ONE TAST for the High Risk activities for all of us, but you need to submit your normal one for your troop overnight to the SUMS. Due 9/5/2019.
Minimum/Maximum # of participants: 25/70. Remember the bonus of Paula Bunyan is sharing adult chaperone ratios if needed.

- RSVP: Troop #, Leader Name(s), estimated # scouts and adults. PLUS $10.00 non-refundable deposit; payable to SU245.
