Time to start planning. We will be going to Robbinswold for our Spring Encamporee, April 24-25. Registration will take place in January, but now is a good time to start talking to your girls and parents about this very fun event. Get your Outdoor Training this fall so you are ready.
What is an encamporee? It is a Service Unit sponsored troop camping event. A meal, campfire program with snack, and hopefully some kind of program/workshop will be provided for you, and then you fill the rest of the time with troop activities: hiking, crafts, badge work, exploring the beach, cooking and clean up.
Are you an older Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador troop? Maybe you would like to put on the program/workshop for the weekend. It is Arbor Day weekend and would be a great opportunity for you to put your skills to use and lead the younger girls in some fun outdoor program. There are outdoor badges that could be earned, doing a camp service project would be great, or come up with your own Arbor Day requirements. It is a great way to build your community service hours too. Your girls would learn organizing skills, how to budget both time and money, leadership skills, and have a great time giving back to Girl Scouts through program. Each girl can check with her school about volunteer hours needed. Most colleges still like to see volunteer hours listed.

- If you choose to volunteer at least 20 hours to the Girl Scout organization, you can receive the Service to Girl Scouting Bar!
- Yes you do need training as was mentioned. First you need Day Trip Planning. Then you need to take Outdoor Overnight which is offered at St. Albans GS camp in January. You can sign up on the website at girlscoutsww.org
Let me know if you have any questions about the weekend, or if your troop would be interested in planning a program/workshop.
