We have a really great opportunity for Girl Scouts to be present at a wonderful cultural event at Edmonds Community College on May 3rd at 1pm. We’ve invited troops and Girls from across the council to participate in this culturally enriching educational opportunity to celebrate American Indian singing, drumming, dancing, and arts and crafts. All Girls that attend and stop by our booth will get a “Cultural Awareness” patch.
We would love to have a few local volunteers host our information booth and possibly some older girls as well. Duties include sharing the joy of Girl Scouting with people who stop by and handing out patches to all Girl Scouts who stop by the booth. It shouldn’t be a long day and it will be a great experience for those who’d like to help out. Kathy, this is right up your alley if you’d like to help out…wink wink 😉
Thanks so much, you guys are such a great team!
Here’s a quick blurb about the event:
The college is committed to providing culturally enriching educational opportunities
throughout the event through traditional storytellers, elders performances, this year’s grand opening for the Cultural Kitchen, and seeks to provide healthy and sustainable options of traditional foods. In addition to hosting the annual powwow, students and employees participate in a variety of environmental, service-learning, and cultural activities throughout the year that supports local tribes and tribal members. Powwows are social gatherings – open to all people – celebrating American Indian tribes’ traditions, styles
of dance, songs, families, and friendships. Dancers and drummers come to the college’s powwow from tribes throughout the Northwest and United States including locally, the Muckleshoot, Lummi, and Tulalip Tribes
