Paula Bunyan

Hello Cadette, Senior, Ambassador Leaders of SU245:

As announced at the March  Leader’s Meeting it is time to start thinking about and planning for our SU 245 Paula Bunyan Encamporee for Fall 2018. Please read on to learn about Paula Bunyan.

This has been an annual tradition for ~15 years……Are you interested?  Then please complete the attached Survey and return to me by April 28th.

Hmm, what is a Paula Bunyan?

What is Paula Bunyan. An Encamporee for our
Service Unit’s teen scouts: Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. This is their
weekend to be campers where they get to see friends from other SU 245 troops they
know from summer camp, sports, church, or school. We leaders get to mix and
mingle too!
 A  great benefit is that troops can buddy up for adult coverage, gear sharing, and it is great to have many very experienced leaders on hand. Troops bring their own camping & kitchen  gear and do all their own cooking;

Activities: This is a cooperative event—all  adults participate in putting it on. We can only offer activities if we have  adults to lead them! In the past, we have offered several daylong activity  options and some half-day activity options.    Scouts sign up individually, not by troop. Leaders not running an activity help the others.  Leader lead activities have included: Outdoor cooking, biking, hiking, fire building, super cool craft projects…..sometimes we have gone with professional vendors/paid GSWW staff for things like horseback riding, rope courses, archery, zip lining, and climbing walls.

Other  traditions we have enjoyed at past Paula Bunyan Encamporee:

Dinner Dutch Oven Potluck, Wide Games, Saturday Campfire Program, Outdoor
service project….fun…laughter…

Costs: Determined by where we camp, what activities are chosen; plus the usual for a troop camping weekend.

Location: Past ones include Girl Scout camps, State Parks, and other Youth Organization camps.

Have Questions??? Come outside and camp with us!!
