Pinewood Derby

Service Unit 245

17th Annual Pinewood Derby

Do your Girl Scouts (grades 4-12) like to build stuff out of wood? Like some problem solving fun? Friendly competition? Like to design objects that go ZOOM?! This is a great activity for a girl and a special adult to work on together over school break and create a car for our SU’s 17th Annual Pinewood Derby on February 11th. It takes at least 6 hours to build a car; more if you are aching to become the next PWD Cool Designer of the Year…..this is what you start with….

Turn it onto something like one of these…

Ok, now it is your turn to download the paperwork and get you car started.  If you have any questions or need some more direction, please let me know. Karin aka Chicken Little, 206-719-7383 /

Fall Product

It’s not too late to  participate in the Fall Product sale this year.  It’s way easier than the cookie sale.  The girls take preorders from friends and family, either in person or online.  Girls can create an online “storefront” to sell to friends and family.  There are no site sales.

Why participate?  There is a special Cookie Sale 100th Anniversary Patch that can only be earned by girls who participate in Fall Product Sale 2016  AND the cookie sale 2017.   You can see on the flyer that each patch will be customized with the girl’s first name.

As always, the troop earns $1.00 for each item sold.  There are candies, nuts, and new this year, there will be additional food items from a farm vendor.

The timeline for the fall product sale is:

Now until 2nd week of September – find out if your troop wants to participate.  Let me know if you’re interested.

Now  – choose 1 adult from your troop to be your Fall Product parent.  That person will attend a 1 hr training session with me.

Mid September – take orders.

October – Pick up your products from my house for the girls to deliver to their customers.

3rd week of October – make sure all the $$$ is deposited into your troop bank account.  Council will take out the correct amount, leaving your profits in your account.

Mid November – pick up your troop’s incentive awards either at my house or at the monthly Leader’s Meeting.

December – enjoy having some $$$ in your account to use BEFORE the cookie sale!

I look forward to hearing from you,

Happy New Year! Ok, well it’s only September,

but it is a new year of Girl Scouting.

A resolution to make all the Volunteer Meetings in the

16/17 membership year is key to Girl Scout success.

Let’s get acquainted if you are new and let’s reconnect if you are a veteran.

  • Attention: Those troops who will be going to Fall Encamporee and Paula Bunyan will need to stay after the Volunteer meeting for a brief information meeting with  Linda Otto  or Ellen Govan.
  • Forms? What are they and do I need to fill them out. The correct answer is yes. Come learn more.
  • Fall Product Sale-Order taking begins September 30th. Leslie Kemberling is the go to person for information and product. Did you know your troop could earn $1.00 per package sold and it is the easiest product to sell?
  • Mark your calendars for January 27th-29th SU 245 Women’s Retreat. Cost is $55 and worth every penny. Flyers will be available soon.
  • Cascade Challenge for Cadette Scouts and older is set for May 19th-21st and is limited to 24 troops. Start talking to your troops if they are eligible to see if they are interested and get your spot early.
  • Check out for the most current information in Service Unit 245.

Experience London

Has your troop dreamed of travel? Are you curious about Girl Scouting and Girl Guiding around the world? Would you like to learn a craft or song from another country?

Join us on Saturday, September 24 to hear about our troop’s trip to Pax Lodge, one of the five WAGGGS World Centres, in London! The first 80 Girl Scouts (including adults) to arrive in uniform will be given a special Pax Lodge patch brought back from London especially for this occasion! Read more
